Your Story Matters

You have a story to tell.  Your life, your pain, your joy, your experience with chiropractic, your successes, your healing, all of it…it MATTERS.  Your story is not just for you, though.  It can make a huge difference in someone’s life if you just open up and share it.  You never know who can benefit from hearing your story.

You may think that your reason for getting chiropractic care in our office is “simple” or “insignificant” but what if there is someone sitting at home, missing out on life, just waiting for your story to inspire and encourage them to step out and give chiropractic a try.

  • What if that person is a mother or father who, because of their pain, is grouchy and short-tempered all the time, can’t get on the floor to play with their children and is alienating their entire family?
  • What if they hear your seemingly simple story and it gives them a glimmer of hope and encouragement to give us a call and check out this thing called chiropractic?
  • And then, what if they begin to get adjusted and they start to feel and function better?
  • And they’re not in pain all the time anymore?
  • And they’re not crabby and grouchy all the time?
  • And they can start to play and get involved with their kids/
  • And it allows them to restore relationships with other family members?
  • What if the entire course of that family changes for the better, all because YOU spoke up and shared your story?

That makes your simple and insignificant story seem pretty big, doesn’t it?  Well, IT IS!

Be bold.  Use your voice.  Share your truth.  You have a purpose.  Someone needs to hear exactly what you have to say.  Inspire. Encourage. Empower.  What’s YOUR chiropractic story?  Your story matters.  Go tell it!

Why is Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy Such a Good Idea {Part 2}

In the previous post we talked about the importance of the nerve system during pregnancy and about how important it is to maintain a clear brain-body connection to optimize mom’s and baby’s health and development.  That’s all about FUNCTION.  You see, how you FUNCTION depends on your nerve system.  Now, I’d like to spend a little time talking about STRUCTURE.  Your STRUCTURE relates to your musculoskeletal system, but the nerve system is absolutely in there, too.

During pregnancy preexisting imbalances in your spine and pelvis tend to be amplified.  You may not have known about these imbalances prior to becoming pregnant, but as you progress and your baby becomes bigger and bigger and your body undergoes more and more change, they become very clearly obvious.  In fact, a large percent of all pregnant women (48%-76% depending on the source) experience back pain or discomfort during pregnancy.  These pronounced discomforts can make it very difficult to perform routine, daily activities.  Chiropractic care during pregnancy addresses any imbalances in your spine and pelvis and allows for normal positioning and motion of the spinal and pelvic joints, which can help to alleviate or prevent back pain and discomfort.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is also extremely beneficial to the baby.  hot air balloonAs the baby grows, a woman’s uterus expands to accommodate it.  When Mom’s pelvis is balanced, in proper position, and moving without restriction, the ligaments that connect the uterus to the pelvis maintain an equalized and balanced tension.  They are able to properly support the uterus, as designed.  However, if the pelvis becomes out-of-balance in any way, these ligaments may become torqued and twisted and create an uneven pull on the uterus.  The resulting uterine tension may restrict the baby’s movement and space to develop and grow.  Think of a hot air balloon and all it’s tethers.  When the anchoring lines are balanced, the balloon maintains it shape.  But, if one tether gets pulled too taut, the balloon shape distorts.  When this happens in the uterus, it distorts, and often minimizes, the space that the baby needs to move into the proper birthing position, which is head down, face back, with a very tight chin tuck.  We address this issue through a technique called The Webster Technique.  The Webster Technique is a very safe and gentle adjustment to the pregnant woman’s pelvis that is then followed up by appropriately bringing balance and ease of tension to some of the supporting ligaments of the uterus with the goal of improving the neuro-biomechanical function of the pelvis.  Dr. Jodi is the only chiropractor is Southern Chester County that is Certified in The Webster Technique.

Poor pelvic function and position can lead to dystocia, also know as difficult labor, which is caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction and baby mal-presentation (i.e. poor positioning).  Chiropractic, more specifically the Webster Technique, address all 3 of these primary causes of dystocia.  By adjusting the lumbar spine and pelvis, we are removing any possible nerve disturbance to those areas responsible for growing and delivering a baby.  Adjustments correct pelvic alignment and by balancing the ligaments and muscles that support the uterus, we are also allowing the baby to move into the proper head-down position that is essential for delivery.

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy may restore nerve function to your uterus, balance your pelvic muscles and ligaments, and potentially lead to a safer and easier delivery for you and your baby.
